What to Expect
A typical Bowen Technique treatment generally lasts from 30 to 60 minutes. Clients lie on a massage/bodywork table or couch, or may be seated in a chair if required for comfort. Ladies who are pregnant are treated with respect to their stage in pregnancy . A treatment involves firstly by an assessment of the clients symmetry (leg lengths and anatomical disfunction). Once the assessment is complete the practitioner begins the treatment based on his findings, each treatment consists of several sets of ‘moves’ that are targeted at the presenting problem area’s . The moves are purposeful, and are done through light clothing.
Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client’s body to begin responding. As the nervous system begins to adjust the tension level in the muscles the body relaxes.. the client is then ready for the next set of moves. A common approach in a treatment session is to balance the entire body by addressing the lower back, then the upper back, and then the neck. To minimise disturbance of the client’s comfort, all procedures that address the back are completed before turning over to complete the procedures that are required on the clients front side.
